Capillary Mats Technology
Introduction

Capillary tube mats system is a radiant heating and cooling system inspired by natural circulation structures like blood vessels and plant veins. It used a network of ultra-thin polypropylene tubes where water flows continuously to exchange heat efficiently.

The capillary tube mat is made of high quality, eco-friendly polypropylene. It consists of numerous small-diameter capillary tubes with a diameter of 4.3mm or 3.5mm and manifold pipes of 20mm, available in lengths from 0.5 m to 12.0 m and maximum width of 1.0 m.

Thanks to the very small tube diameter and large heat exchange surface, the system can be installed within ceilings, walls or floors, turning building surfaces into active thermal elements. It works with low-temperature water and delivers comfortable indoor climate mainly through gentle radiant heat transfer, rather than forced air convection.

Capillary Tube Mats System Working Principle

The capillary tube mat system operates in a closed-loop hydronic circuit. Warm or chilled water produced by a heat source circulates through the capillary tube mats installed in ceilings, walls, or floors. The large radiant surface gently transfers heat to or from the room, providing efficient heating and cooling with excellent thermal comfort.
1. Energy Source
The system can be connected to various energy sources, ground-source heat pump, air-source or water-source heat pumps, solar thermal systems, gas boilers, and district heating networks. These sources provide warm or chilled water for the system.
2. Water Distribution
A manifold system regulates and evenly distributes water flow throughout the capillary tube mats.
3. Capillary Tube Mats
Installed near building surfaces, the mats turn ceilings, walls, or floors into active radiant heating and cooling elements.
4. Intelligent Control
Thermostats and dew point sensors ensure precise temperature regulation and safe cooling operation without condensation.
5. Indoor Comfort
Heat is exchanged mainly through radiation, delivering uniform temperatures, silent operation, and high energy efficiency year-round.

Capillary Mats vs Traditional HVAC Systems

Dense capillary tubes provide significantly greater heat transfer area than conventional radiant piping, resulting in faster response, improved efficiency, and superior comfort.

    Water supplied in capillary tube mats only requires 28-32℃ for heating purpose, it reduce heating energy consumption compared with the 45-60℃ request of common floor heating pipes. It has tested the capillary system can save 30-40% consumption.

    For cooling in summer, the supply water is around 16-18℃ which is much higher than the traditional air conditioner.
    It can save 50-60% energy consumption. The combination of capillary mats with heat pump can achieved the highest outputs.
